What is public, and what is not

A single list of everything that can leave your workspace, and what has to happen first.

Nothing you create is public by default. Four things can become public, and each takes a deliberate action by an administrator.

  • A heritage site — public once you give it an address and publish it.
  • A clan directory listing — public once an administrator turns listing on. Name, one line and member count only.
  • A family tree marked public — off by default on every tree.
  • A blog post you publish from the dashboard.

What is never public

Records and the documents they describe, clan posts, events, resources, messages, and member lists. These are visible only to people who have been invited into that workspace and have accepted.

A clan marked public is discoverable to people signed in to Ancestral Lineage. That is a different setting from the public directory, and it does not put the clan on the open web.
